"For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." (2Cor.5:21)
I am enthralled by the beauty of this Gospel. It is one of the places again where the Bible shows Christ as the concrete person of the abstract. "Word" is an abstract, and He is the Word of God in flesh. "Life" is an abstract, and He is Life. Here, "Sin" is an abstract. No man can be Sin in the same way that no man can be Word or Life. This is the wonder of God's Son. He was made Sin for us, so that now, in Him, we become the Righteousness of God. It doesn't say that we are made righteous persons; it says we become the Righteousness of God in Him. In other words, I will still say that I am the chief of sinners, am imperfect; but, God sees me in Christ as the Righteousness of God in concrete terms. There is nothing more beautiful than the Gospel in the world!!!!!
Such beauty excites this heart beyond limits! The Gospel tells us that the Righteous One was made Sin for us so that Sinners might become the Righteousness of God in Him. Such interweaving of abstract and concrete terms, I can see nowhere!! How can The Sinless Righteous One who knew no sin be made Sin for us? How can Unrighteous Sinners become the Righteousness of God? But, this is what really happened on the Cross, the Altar of God's Sacrifice for the salvation of humanity. Oh the riches of the depths of the wisdom of God!! The Gospel has come not in order to condemn us, but to tell us that the price of our redemption has been paid, we need no longer live in fear, in bondage of the darkness that we were, for the Gospel calls us out into His marvellous light so that we shine as the Light of God in Him, that we might become the Righteousness of God in Him, in concrete terms. This is really Good News!!!
