I will be a Father to you (2 Cor 6:18)

"I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty." (2Co 6:18)
~He doesn't say "I will become a Father...", for becoming is a process and God is not subject to processes. He is the Father of all and we are His offspring (Eph.4:6; Acts 17:28,29). "Is" denotes a fact. It points to our origin. But, "to be" involves choice and action; it points to a commitment and relationship of how God commits "to be" in relation to us (See 2Sam.7:14). It possesses a towardness. This free act is in tandem with verse 17, where God says that if we come out from among the worldly and be separate, He will receive us. Secondly, this refers to our experience on earth now, for He says "you shall be My sons and daughters"; however, in the regeneration and the final manifestation, we are all referred to as His sons (Rom.8:19). It is one thing to claim we are the children of God--the Jews also did that, but Jesus showed them that their acts proved they were children of the devil (Jn.8:41,44)--it is another thing that God can truly be a Father to us and we His sons and daughters. This is more important. But, it can't be unless we are living a life of separation from the world, that is a life lived not towards self or towards the world, but towards God; for He says, "indeed I am for you, and I will turn to you (Eze 36:9), and then again "Draw near to God and He will draw near to you." (Jam 4:8).
