John 18, 19. The Trial of The King

John 18:29-30. Pilate asks what accusation they brought. But, they were not here to have him judge Jesus whether He was right or wrong; they only wanted him to execute Jesus. When they saw that Pilate didn't find enough reasons to crucify Jesus, they used political rhetoric, accusing Jesus of sedition and rebellion against Caesar and they went to the extent of confessing allegiance to Caesar alone (John 19:15). Of course, there was that so-called intended fear that Jesus really was a revolutionary leader and was putting the Jewish nation to danger (John 11:47-48).

At the same time, the reconciliation between Herod and Pilate (signifying Jewish and non-Jewish union) at this time seems to point at both the united incrimination of Jesus. Thus, it was the world that crucified Christ and it was not just a Jewish sacrifice.

Though Pilate washed his hands, he only proved that his giving in to the Jewish people's cry, was only an attempt on behalf of the Roman Empire.

The crucifixion demonstrated the enmity between the world and God.
